Makeup Tips: Cleaning Your Brushes 1,2,3

Hello...happy weekend!!

Yeay, thank God the weekend is here...at last, a well-deserving break after a week of hard work. *Sigh* Well, at least for me since this is the time of the year where my job is really driving me nuts~!

Anyway, since it's the weekend...it also means that it's the Laundry day (ugh!), house chores day (super ugh!) and not to forget - the wash-your-makeup brushes day!

Yes, I admit...it is NO fun to do and most of the time we get lazy, then we procrastinate and eventually totally forgotten about it. And yes, I'm guilty for being lazy too! T_T

However, let me stress how important it is to wash up you makeup brushes at least once a week or once in two weeks. So, no-no-no...don't you forget to wash up, ok (=.=). Cuz if you don't, bacterias and germs will probably start a village of their own on your brushes and yuck! you wouldn't want that, don't you??!!

So, start washing already!

What, you've never washed you brushes before??!!! *Gasp*
O....M....G!!!!!

Fret not, BBM (Beaute Blog by M.) is here to save your brushes!

What you need:

1) Makeup Brush Cleanser
- a special solution that gently cleanse your brushes. You can get it from local drugstore, leading makeup counter, elianto etc. I got mine from Stage for RM18.00 only a medium size bottle of 3L. You can also get them at MAC's for RM45 a bottle.

Alternatively, if the brush cleaser is too much on your pocket...you can also opt for:-

Anti-bacterial hand soap and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (will discuss further below)

2) A clear glass

3) Kitchen napkin/ serviette / tissue papers

4) The Brush Guard (optional)

What to do:-

Step 1
Take your dirty brushes and rinse it with running water with the bristles facing downward and avoiding the handles to get wet.

Step 2
You can put a few drops of Brush Cleanser solution onto the napkin, not too much though.

Step 3
Take your brushes and with the bristles facing towards the napkin, slowly rub the bristles onto the napkin in circulare motion. Remember not to press the bursh too hard onto the napkin or you'll risk damaging the bristles.

Continue Step 3 until you are satisfied that the brush is clean i.e. when no colors are being transferred onto the napkin

Step 4
Rinse for a while under running water, with bristles facing down and try not to get you brush handle wet in the process. Then, slowly pad the brushes onto dry tissues or towels.

Step 5
Using the see through glass, place your brushes upside down into the glass. If you have a Brush Guard, slip in your brush and stop about a few cm away from the tip of the brush guard.

Step 6
Let it dry overnight and your brushes will be clean and ready to use the next day.

In case you were wondering what are these Brush Guards, here's a picture of it.

The brush guard is great for protecting your brushes from dust and will help retain the original shape of the brush. It is usually sold in a pack that contains various sizes and if you want to know where to buy them in Malaysia, email me and I'll be happy to assist you ;)

If you do not have a Brush Cleanser....

Start with Step 1

And at Step 2....
Take a clean plate and pour 1 tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil onto one side of the plate and a few drops of anti-bacterial soap onto the plate.

Then, take your brush and gently dab the bristles onto both solution, slowly mixing it before wiping it off on a napkin like in Step 3. Proceed with Step 3 till finish.

Drying your brush with the Brush Guard

The anti-bacterial soap will help combat bacterias and germs on your brushes while the olive oil will condition the bristles during the cleaning process.

The whole process may sound tedious but with practice and the help of a distraction like TV, it will be done in a jiffy! The time and effort invested in taking care of your tools will definitely pay off in the future.

With a clean brush, not only you spare you face from germs and bacterias but it will also help you apply make up in a breeze and not to mention the amount of money you saved because of it.

CLEAN BRUSHES + CLEAN MAKEUP = BEAUTIFUL YOU

So, it's the weekend...will you be cleaning you brush anytime soon?????

Till then, good luck & stay flawless...
xoxo,
