Foundation [Part 2] Choosing the right Color

My long overdue entry on Foundation...

In my previous entry, I have explained the many types of Foundation that suit different type of skin. So, did you give a try and found the perfect type of foundation for your skin?

Now, moving on...as promised, let's talk about Choosing the Right color for you.

Firstly, let's do a quick test.

THE TEST

You'll need: -

i) Silver Necklace

ii) Gold Necklace

iii) White paper

iv) Your wrist (huh???)

Step 1
Flip your wrist and look at your veins. Okay, bukan tengok sampai naik juling please.
Just look out for the color of your veins. Are there more 'Green' veins or 'Blue/Purple' veins on your wrist?

If there are more 'Green' veins ---> You belong in the WARM skin tone group
If there are more 'Blue/Purple' veins -----> You beling in the COOL skin tone group
If you are not sure ----> proceed to next step


Step 2
Take a square of white paper and place it next to your face. Then look into the mirror.

If the white paper makes you look 'Yellow-y' ---> you have WARM skin tone
If the white paper makes you look 'Rosy' ---> you have COOL skin tone
If you are still confused ---> proceed to step 3


Step 3
Take a silver necklace and put it on and have a good look at yourself with it
Next, take gold necklace and put it on. Have a good look at yourself with the necklace on you.

Compare and see which necklaces matches your best; and yes, be honest please!
I know it is not a common for younger people like us (cheh!) to like gold jewelry because for fear we'll look like makcik older.

So,
If GOLD looks best with you ---> you have WARM skin tone
If SILVER looks better with you ---> you have COOL skin tone

If you are still unsure after the 3rd test, you can imagine yourself wearing these 2 colors (or actually try it on, if you have any)

HOT PINK top---> if this is better for you, you're a COOL person
BRIGHT ORANGE top---> if this is better for you, you're a WARM person.

Kalau still tak tau juga till now, then you need serious professional help to make up your mind!!

Once you've determined whether you're a WARM or COOL, you can choose the right foundation for your skin tone.

A good foundation brand would usually produce foundations according to these two skintone category.
Those who doesn't are usually companies who produces generic foundation of low quality. My advise - don't buy from them.

When choosing foundation, the best way is to swab some of the tester onto your the side of you face. Yes, you can dab it onto the back of your palm, however I do not recommend this method as you would not get an accurate color. Simply because the color of your skin varies between you hands/arms and your face. Most of the time, the face is much fairer than you body.



















You would want to choose a color that look closest to your actual skin color.
IF you want to appear fairer, you can choose 1 color lighter than your actual skin color, but bear in mind you'll probably need a good sponge or brush to ensure the color blends smoothly into your skin. If not, you'll probably end up looking like an 'Opera Cina' and you definitely wouldn't want that.

As for me, I belong in the NEUTRAL and COOL skin tone group. (Yes, cuz I look damn good in hot pink! Ahaks :P)

At the moment my favourite, must-have foundation that I am using is by REVLON Colorstay Liquid Foundation in Nude.
